Coming Up Roses is a band on the verge of a meteoric rise in the UK’s grassroots music scene; their latest EP serves as a vocal testament to this premise. They have been releasing a steady stream of music since 2019, characterised by strong, sonically expansive tunes. This current EP represents their finest collection of work to date.
The tunes on this album notably feature pristine, flare-filled production; they were produced by Joshua Rumble, who has worked with established artists such as Gang Of Four, Paul Tucker, Jack Penãte, Florence Welch, and Bastille. Their coherence as creatives shines and sizzles, for lack of a better word. The band’s songwriting efforts are heartfelt and raw, tugging at your heartstrings.
“Back The Way We Came” and “Don’t Let it Break Your Heart” initiated their EP campaign. At their core, both tracks are quintessential “feel-good” tunes featuring pulsating, rhythmic electric guitars with a touch of 1/8 delay and a strong, 4-on-the-floor beat; this band delivers that sound with originality and sincerity; this band stands out as a breath of fresh air. “Why” is good as well; a must-listen.
“Silence,” in my opinion, stands out as the strongest track in this collection. I’ve had it on repeat since I first got my hands on the EP. I must emphasise that it’s sonically explosive and expansive, yet this tune highlights one of the aspects I adore about this band. They write the songs that need to be written, unafraid to do so. This is the band defining the essence of music.
Below is my rating of the tunes on this record on a scale of 1-10

Back The Way We Came – 9
