Blakgraz – Boots and Dukes (Single Review)

Blakgraz’s music combines rock, blues, country, folk, bluegrass, pop, electronic, rap, latin, and jazz to create a unique style full of energy, intense passion, unique storytelling, and skillful performance to ensure a memorable experience for each listener every time.

Blakgraz first formed in 2010 with the release of the album “Lust” followed in 2012 with “Messages in Numbers” followed by “Fire” in 2019, then “Chaotic” in 2021,”Trust” in 2022, and now “Soveran” for 2023.

The main creative force behind Blakgraz is Tom Sweeney. Tom wrote and recorded “Now Is So Beautiful” with Valarie Borman in 2000, and had it reach the No. 1 spot for downloaded songs on MP3.com, beating out Alanis Morrisette and Blink 182. Tom has had regional success with songwriting in various projects including Shoot the Moon which saw Top 10 positioning on Reverbnation in 2007 for several months and national, regional, and college radio airplay. Tom has been fortunate to share the stage with national touring acts across the United States for many years before bringing his drive and obsession for music experimentation to Blakgraz.

The experimental southern band, Blakgraz combine bluegrass and country rock in their fun new song Boots and Dukes.

Boots and Dukes is the new single off Blackgraz’s new album Soveran, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the unorthodox music group.

With an all-American theme, and country lyrics slickly sung in a southern twang, simply put, Boots and Dukes is an easy, breezy, summer tune that feels like it’s designed to hit perfectly with the sun.

Its tongue-in-cheek lyrics and sway-inducing guitar riffs make it an essential part of any road trip playlist for bluegrass and country fans.

The chorus is catchy, quick and helps pick up the song’s pace to give it more of an energetic sound.

Whilst the runtime of the song itself may be a little long considering its content, it doesn’t take away from the fact that for the majority it is enjoyable, even if it does get a bit repetitive in stages.

SCORE/Good: For all its worth, Boots and Dukes is a fun summer pick-me-up that shows how much fun Blakgraz must have through toying and experimenting with its unique southern sound.
