Marcus Liuzzi is an artist that surely sets himself apart from other musicians, just for one simple reason: his perspective to his own artistry, and how he authentically narrates his story and journey to music itself. A lot of us tend to explore ourselves through the perspective of a third person, but he goes against the grain and does it by having a very personal relationship and active recall to his own journey. For that, I think it is quite commendable. This bleeds itself to his own music and his journey to where he is today with his new single, titled ‘Six Pack of Bourbon’.
Marcus Liuzzi is a singer, songwriter and musician living outside of Boston, Massachusetts. He wrote his first pop song at the age of 15 and went on to play professionally in several bands throughout the 70s and the 80s. He distinguishes himself by being a multi-instrumentalist, culminating his talent and playing the guitar, bass, drums and the keyboard. He also enjoys collaborating with other musicians, understanding the power of collaboration and feedback from others during recording sessions, instead of being a lone wolf. As they say, the more the merrier.
His influences are pretty typical for a kid growing up in the 70s. They include The Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Carly Simon and ELO. He interestingly decided to fulfil a dream in the spring of 2017, and decided to head off to London with his drummer son Matt to record a couple of songs at the legendary Abbey Road studios. This is truly a definitive moment for any Beatles fan. He then wrote steadily and spent most of his spare time writing and recording in his home studio, and splurging on more gear.
On brand with his authenticity, he doesn’t like to describe his music. In fact, he prefers to leave it up to the listener and let them decide. He doesn’t really focus on any specific topic or theme but prefers to write about a variety of topics such as love, hope, new adventures, solitude, personal loss, and peace, all within a pop/rock flair.
His latest release is his attempt at trying his hand at a song that infuses country and rock.
The song definitely starts out with very energetically, with the strong thumps of the percussion and the guitars coming in with a lot of sass and presence. The song has a general uptempo and fast-paced feel, with aspects of Marcus’ influences all bombarding at once. The piano segment reminds me of The Beatles, while the guitar sequence and the vocals at times even reminds me of the song ‘The Jean Genie’ by David Bowie.
Despite the otherwise predictable nature of the song in terms of being uptempo, it actually doesn’t stay monotonous. It bears enough chord changes and even, a delectable solo to keep the listener absolutely hooked. If you’re into a fusion of country and rock music with a slight vintage flair, as with the flanger in his vocals, I think you’ll love this track. It even has aspects of rock ‘n’ roll within the composition. It definitely comes across as a song that people would sing along to in a live performance, due to how catchy it is.
My only qualm with the track is the very slight mismatch between the mastering of the main vocals and the instrumental, making it where some of the vocals seem out of place when it really doesn’t need to. However, it is just a minor error. Otherwise, this track will definitely have you rocking out in your cowboy boots at the hypothetical saloon.
Score/Good: Marcus Liuzzi graces us with a fast-paced, fun and cheeky song titled ‘Six Pack of Bourbon’. It combines aspects of country music and rock music, making you feel like the star of the rodeo as you follow and sing along to the song. Definitely a good one for enjoyers of this particular genre.
